Turkish State Railways


Ankara HST Station was put into operation with a magnificent opening ceremony organized on 29 October 2016.

President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Chairperson of Turkish Grand National Assembly H.E. İsmail Kahraman, Prime Minister H.E. Binali Yıldırım, Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications H.E. Ahmet Arslan and ministers, members of parliament and a large number of citizen attended in the opening ceremony.

“May Allah deem prosperity on our Country, Nation and City via this station.”

In his speech in the opening ceremony, President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that “May Allah deem prosperity on our Country, Nation and the City via Ankara HST Station opened here. In the presence of you, I congratulate all my friends, managers, architects, engineers and workers of all contractor firms which have contributions in bringing this HST Station building, which I believe it will be symbolic work of art in our Capital, to our country.”

“A successful example of Public Private Partnership”

Underlining certain technical data on Ankara HST Station, H.E. Erdoğan expressed that “This work of art is a product of the public private partnership model which we have executed the most successful examples worldwide. With its daily capacity of 50 thousand passengers, the stations building is a real work of art bearing 3 platforms, 6 railway lines, an indoor area of 195 thousand square meters, a car park for 1.910 vehicles and commercial, social and cultural areas.”

Stating that the building will be operated by a company established under the name of Ankara Train Station Operation (ATG) for 19 years and 7 months, and then, transferred to TCDD, H.E. Erdoğan indicated that “Status of Ankara as the centre high speed railway lines is reinforced with this station put into operation with an approximate cost of investment of 235 million USD.”

H.E. Erdoğan added in his speech with the lyrics of folk song named “Kara Tren” that “Do not wonder the black train [kara tren] will never delay any more. Because, the high speed trains take the place of it. Today, they can reach from Ankara to İstanbul, Eskişehir and Konya within a time period for writing a letter of few lines and sending a message.”


“Next turn to Bursa, Yozgat, Sivas İzmir and Karaman”

“We will add Bursa, Yozgat, Sivas, İzmir and Karaman in 2018 to these lines, if Allah wills. Then, we will extend these lines to Mersin, Adana, Erzincan and Erzurum and continue to all directions up to 2020” continued H.E. Erdoğan. He also stated that the tender for 1915 Çanakkale Bridge Project would be made on January 2017, and then the next turn is for the Channel İstanbul Project, preparations of which are ongoing.

Attending in the opening ceremony of Ankara HST Station, Chairperson of Turkish Grand National Assembly H.E. İsmail Kahraman expressed in his speech in the ceremony that “We met with a magnificent work of art again. I congratulate all contributing for bringing one more work of art to Turkey.”

"We are putting great projects into effect.”

Prime Minister H.E. Binali Yıldırım stated in his speech that "Here is the work of art. Here is the Ankara Train Station. Distinguished President! Ankara is becoming not only the capital of Turkey but the centre of high speed railway network. We lacing high speed railway network in 14 provinces bearing 55% of the whole population from Ankara to Konya and Eskişehir and in the future to Uşak, Manisa, İzmir, Yozgat, Sivas, Erzincan, Konya, Karaman, Mersin and Antep. It is a worship to provide service to this Nation. Today, one of the countries executing the greatest projects in the world is Turkey. Distinguished President! You have a principle: The way to overcome the global crisis is to put the great projects into effect. Turkey has been putting great projects which have remained on the agenda for 50 years one by one.”

Also, H.E. Yıldırım said that “When we started to this journey distinguished President stated that we would provide service to our Nation via all actions no talks. We have succeeded it, thanks to Allah. We have connected three capitals of Ottoman Empire, Seljuk Empire and Republic of Turkey respectively İstanbul, Konya and Ankara with high speed railway lines. When we first opened the high speed line, 28 million citizens travelled by it. Now, it has turned into a modern Ankara High Speed Train Station via build-operate-transfer model. I hope this brings prosperity to our nation and country.”

It will provide service for 15 million people per year

Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications H.E. Ahmet Arslan expressed in his speech that the support of President H.E. Erdoğan and Prime Minister H.E. Yıldırım was really important for themselves in turning the railways into a state policy again on the 93rd Anniversary of the Republic.

Stating that they brought such an impressive project to Ankara on the 93rd Anniversary of the Republic, H.E. Arslan said that “We will, thanks to Allah, crown many anniversaries of the Republic with many other great projects.”

H.E. Arslan added: “With the fact that the railways have become a state policy again, Ankara-Konya and Ankara-Eskişehir HSR lines has been opened and Ankara-İzmir and Ankara-Sivas HSR lines will be opened to service. And, here, Ankara HST Station will provide service for 50 thousand people daily and 15 million people annually.”


It constitutes all kind of living spaces

Emphasising that Ankara HST Stations constitutes all kind of living spaces, H.E. Arslan stated that the ones coming to Ankara HST Station from all parts of Turkey could spend time here conveniently, travel, welcome and send off their passengers.

H.E. Arslan underlined also that the Ankara HST Station is an “accessible” station for people with reduced mobility and stated his wish for the station to bring prosperity and good luck to Ankara and Turkey.

The first train was dispatched by the President

After the opening speeches, President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Chairperson of Turkish Grand National Assembly H.E. İsmail Kahraman, Prime Minister H.E. Binali Yıldırım, Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications H.E. Ahmet Arslan and other Ministers and officials cut the ribbon for opening the station. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, the first HST from Ankara HST Station was dispatched with the order of President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
