HISTORY OF PORT

As it can be understood from the name of the region coming from and dating back to Alexander the Great (B.C. 333), the concession of the port construction, given to Anatolia Bagdad Railways Company in 1909, was given to “Iskenderun Port French Company” after its seizure by French Government in 1918 after the First World War.

The French Company started the construction of the part which is now called the inner port and used as the shelter of the barges. After the small vessel wharf which is 200 m and called as southern wharf and the east and west poles of the small port were built in 1927, Hatay Government was established and annexed to the Motherland and transferred to the General Directorate of State Port Authorities according to the law No. 3714.

The port which was transferred to State Railways Authority according to Law dated 14.08.1942 and No. 4301 was expanded with a big stage in 1944 and became a modern port thanks to mechanical equipment and plants reinforced in between 1953 and 1956. The expansion of the port continued in 1964 and the upper structure of the dock was completed in 1972 and it was put into service with its all facilities.

Iskenderun Port which had been operated by our Enterprise was taken into the privatization scope with the decree of the High Board of Privatization dated 30.12.2004 and No. 2004/128 with “the transfer of operational rights”. As a result of the tender made to operate the port, the port was transferred to Limak Yatırım Enerji Üretim İşletme Hizmetleri ve İnşaat A.Ş. which won the tender on 30.12.2011 for 36 years with a total amount of $372.000.000 USD.

The port continues its activities under the name of “Limak İskenderun Uluslararası Liman İşletmeciliği A.Ş.” (Limak Iskenderun International Port Management JSC).

Within the framework of related provisions of the Concession Agreement about the Transfer of Operational Rights, TCDD performs its control and supervision duties and authorities given to it by means of TCDD Iskenderun Port Authority Control Department.
