PILOTAGE: Pilotage is compulsory for vessels entering or leaving the port.
TOWAGE: Towage is not necessary for the vessels up to 2000 GRT.
This service is provided by the Turkish Maritime Organization (TDI) round-the-clock.
SEA CRAFTS: One floating crane with a capacity of 90 tons is available.
HANDLING EQUIPMENT: Container handling operations at the yard are carried out by 5 quayside gantry cranes of 40 tons capacity, 3 MHC (mobile harbor cranes) cranes of 100 tones, 14 rubber tired transtainers of 35 to 40 tons capacity, 15 reach stackers of 25 to 42 tons capacity and 7 empty container forklifts of 8 to 10 tons capacity. In addition, 6 mobile cranes of 10 to 25 tons capacity, 12 short mast forklifts (diesel + electric), 1 mini loader and 49 towing sets are available. Another facility available at the terminal is the provision of reefer facilities for refrigerated containers.
Also, two MHC (mobile harbor cranes) cranes of 100 tones is available for rent.
BULK CARGO FACILITIES: Two reinforced concrete grain silos belonging to TMO (Turkish Grain Board) of having a total 70.000 tons capacity are available.
PASSENGER FACILITIES: As İzmir is very close to the tourism and historical places on the Aegean region, the port has a substantial passenger traffic volume.
HISTORY OF PORT
The transfer of the concrete pier of Alsancak to Turkish State Railways was ensured via the Decree of the Council of Ministers dated 13.03.1957 and No. 4/8783, and it was taken into operation on 01.06.1959. Then, it was decided to transfer the pier to Denizcilik Bankası T.A.O. (Turkish Maritime Bank) with the decision of Deputies Committee dated 22.01.1960 and No. 4/12662, and it was transferred to the Denizcilik Bankası T.A.O. on 27.04.1960. Denizcilik Bankası T.A.O., taken under the framework of the Law No. 440 as of 1964, continued to operate as a Public Economic Enterprise. The Izmir Port Authority was transferred to Turkish State Railways as of 1 January 1989 with the Decision of Higher Planning Council dated 16.12.1988 and No. 88/121.
